Looked for a while for something that wouldn't cost half a mortgage payment but would work fairly well on my motorcycle. Gave the Shark a try and it is Awesome! I only have to turn it a little way up to hear it over my pipes while riding and it comes in perfect. If I turn it full volume it would blast me off my bike! Awesome radio at an awesome price!

Product Description:
Stay connected with your buddies while on the trail, at the river, or anywhere else within a 10-mile range with this pair of GMR1088-2CK two-way radios. Also ideal as neighborhood watch tools and kid-sitting aids, each water-resistant radio features 22 channels (15 GMRS, 7 FRS) and 99 CTCSS/DSC privacy codes, along with a voice-operated transmitter that enables hands-free communication when used with an optional HS 2467 headset and microphone. The large number of channels and privacy codes give users several communication options, ensuring that they can almost always talk with friends or family via an exclusive, uninterrupted signal. The channels are easy to find thanks to the channel scan feature, which browses for active channels while you watch, and the channel monitor function, which listens for weak signals on a given channel. To transmit on a GMRS or FRS channel, a user merely presses the PTT or power-boost button while the scan is paused. The power-boost button expands the radio's range by emitting maximum power when a GMRS channel is detected. The radios are also equipped with a NOAA National Weather Service receiver. In weather-alert mode, the system functions as it does in GRMS mode, but also monitors the selected weather channel for storm updates and other information. When using the weather function, users can't receive GMRS communications, however.
Additional features include a backlit LCD display, keypad lock, and a choice of five different call tones. The selectable tones are ideal for groups with several radios, as it lets users differentiate between calls. The radios also include a pair of belt clips for efficient transport, along with two charging cradles and accompanying NiMH battery packs. Each radio also comes with a battery-level meter on its display to indicate the power level.
What's in the Box
Two GMR1088-2CK radios, two belt clips, two charging cradles with AC adapters, two NiMH batteries, user's manual.
Note: Use of the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) frequencies requires a Federal Communication Commission license. Cobra 29LTD 40-Channel CB Radio Review

Cobra 29LTD 40-Channel CB Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are a lot of CB radios out there and the Cobra 29 LTD Classic has stood the test of time.It comes with the traditional chrome detailed brushed aluminum faceplate that really shows off this radio. But the true quality is in the radio itself.I have owned plenty of CBs in the past 30 years including some top-end AM/sideband CBs as well as a few export radios, and as far as a straight AM 40 channel CBs, this is one that really shines above the others. The most impressive features in this radio are its sensitivity in receiving, even while the Noise-Blanker and/or Automatic Noise Limmiter circuits are engaged. And these circuits actually eliminate static and engine-generated noise...unlike some other radios.Overall, the 29LTD Classic is perhaps the best inexpensive AM CB out there!

Product Description:
The CB radio has been around since the 1930s. To see that the Citizens Band is stillbeing produced and sold is testament to its reliability and usefulness. Cobra has brought backtheir version of the CB with this 29-LTD. They've made some nice improvements to the CB youmight have used a decade or two ago. Key improvements to this radio include a front panelmicrophone connector which makes in-dash installation a cinch. Cobra has also provided a ninefoot microphone cord so that you keep in touch from a good distance, whether you're located ina truck cab or dispatch office. The final noteworthy improvement are tactile controls for safer, and more accurate, functionality. Other features include: antenna warning indicator, SWRcalibration, instant Channel 9, PA capability, dimmer control, switchable noise blanker and RFgain. In a time of seemingly un-ending technological advances, it's nice to see something wecreated back in the late 1930s is still alive and kicking.

Ion Tape2PC USB Cassette Deck Review

Ion Tape2PC USB Cassette Deck
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before I purchased the ION I read many articles on the Internet about how to transfer my audio cassettes to CD/iPod.I was overwhelmed by the technical terms, so I thought the ION would be the answer to my dreams:an easy, trouble-free solution.I assumed, that the ION (at it's steep price) would give me all I needed for simple, stress-free transfers.

I was wrong.The ION is a bad-investment for a number of reasons:

1.The ION is huge.
2.The software included with my ION was defective (Chinese characters appeared when I tried to load the application) -- and although the folders opened in English, they still didn't load.
3.The recording software for MAC users is available FREE on line.
4.If you have an old tape deck, or any cassette player with audio-out ports, you can go to Radio Shack (which I just did), buy a standard issue "Y" connector (1/8" stereo plug on one end and a white (male) and yellow (male) plug on the other end and (voila) you are done -- you now have precisely what the ION gives you:all for about about $15.

Believe me, I am no computer/tech genius.I'm a forty-something mom.Butbuying and plugging in the "Y" connector was super easy.

The ION merely gives you an old-fashioned, basic cassette deck, basic software (and, in the case of Audacity, something that is free from the Internet) and a USB connector (which does exactly the same thing as the $15 Radio Shack Y-connecter).

After that, you are on your own.I found the steepest learning curve was figuring out how to use the audio recording software. When I was stymied by the defective ION software, I discovered Garage Band was already on my iMac -- but I have since downloaded and use Audacity (on both my husband's PC and my iMAC).

The ION directions are so basic as to be nearly indecipherable. And as far as the Audacity software goes, the ION literature says something like:if you've never used audio recording software stick with the EZ converter software (which I believe only works on PCs).

Please also note that the ION literature doesn't tell you the next most important step you must take to make the ION work (goodness knows how any of the other reviewers were able to use their ION w/o a good working knowledge of their computer and/or audio recording. In short, you must go into your Control Panel (PC) or System Preference (MAC) and make sure you change your sound input option to in-line audio port (if using a Y-connector) or USB (if sticking with the ION).

Buyer Beware: think twice before you click to buy the ION.If you have a cassette player (or access to one) with output audio ports (most have them), you can buy the Y-connector and download the software for free.

To Amazon's credit, it appears they will refund my money and cover the cost of return shipment because of the defective software contained with the ION I purchased.

Uniden GMR-325 3-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio Review

Uniden GMR-325 3-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought two of these units at Radio Shack to use for installing security surveillance cameras in properly aiming/focusing the cameras.I was quite literally on the rooftop for about 15 minutes, and had used a total of approximately 8 minutes of talk time when the first unit chewed through its batteries.Mine was then of course useless, but I used it the next day and installed fresh batteries into the other unit.

After about 10 minutes of talk time, these things chew through EVERY ounce of battery power.I assumed I had gotten bad batteries somehow, and tried new ones to no avail.

I logged into Amazon to see about getting a higher quality business band type radio and ran across the comment left by another here, and had to put my two cents in.I feel that these units are defective and strongly advise thinking twice about this purchase.

Cobra 19DXIV 40-Channel CB Radio
Average Reviews:

OVERVIEW
I had this radio in my Dodge truck. It tucked nice under the dash and was a great performer. Power was good as well as reception. Great Buy!
POWER
Any CB you purchase is limited to 4 watts output power so dont let size fool you. ALL CB'S are limited to 4 watts due to FCC regulations, look it up!
PRICE
The price on this site is high retail to say the least. I purchased this unit from Wal-Mart for 35 dollars.
SIZE
This will not take up a bunch of in-cab space that you dont have to spare due to manual tranmissions and transfer case levers. It tucks away nice and doesnt get in the way.

Uniden PRO510XL 40-Channel CB Radio Review

Uniden PRO510XL 40-Channel CB Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am partial to Uniden anyway, however this CB is great for a first time user or as a back up to a more expensive unit.I have been using CB for about 10 years and I always make sure I have a Uniden 510 available for a back up, or use it in a second car.It has superior range when used with a good antenna and the received audio is decent. I would suggest using an external speaker unless you have a super quiet vehicle. The anl switch cuts through static really well to improve reception, although it sometimes dulls out the audio of the person you are trying to hear. You can use it with a cigarette lighter plug with an adapter from radio shack for a few dollars. They will even show you how to hook it up.It all boils down to being a great CB at a great price.Remember a simple rule of thumb... An inexpensive CB on a good antenna will perform just as well as a high-end CB on a cheap antenna.Don't forget to tune your antenna and have fun!

I have been searching for a great set of GMRS radios and I really wanted to like these, but alas it wasn't to be.The radios have a nice look to them, but that is about all.The buttons on the face of the radios are easy enough to press and operate, but not at the expense of the menu system. It takes so many presses just to do a simple change, I got quickly disgusted with it.Not only did the units require lots of button presses to make simple changes, but I needed to hold this CLOSE to my face just to see the TINY display. The PTT (push to talk) buttons are inset into the side of the units, making them near impossible to even press. My wife and I both had problems holding the buttons in just to talk for anything longer than two words because they required such force to press.I can say the rechargable batteries are good, but could be better if they were NiMH batteries instead of the inferior NiCD batteries included. Also, range was good since I could reach near a mile through thick trees and hilly terrain, maybe farther in open terrain.I ultimately found a far superior set of radios for a cheaper price in another brand with all the features I wanted that I have also reviewed on Amazon.

Okay, first question, why so few reviews? You go on to Amazon.com for the most obscure products, like "Ladies Nylon Ant removers," (remove those pesky ants from your Nylons before you dress in the morning ladies) and you'll see 72 reviews from mostly satisfied customers.

This product for some reason only had one other review. Not sure why.I ordered based on that one review.Mistake.

I got my Cobra PR170-2VP Micro Talk GMRS/FRS 2-Way Radios from Amazon in excellent time, very quickly, I thought.I followed the directions to charge up the batteries, and use the product. But for some reason, the sound kept cutting out.I also had problems with functioning radios.I would get about 5 minutes use out of a radio, before the "battery" seemed to stop working. I wasn't sure.

I tried completely new batteries in both radios, and only one consistently worked. Also, the battery indicator never showed "full" so I wasn't even sure if that meant "full battery" or not completely charged, or whatever?Since only one radio was working, it was difficult to tell if it even worked. And how soon before it mysteriously stopped working.

Very poor quality, and I am returning them today. Not recommended.Perhaps I got a bum pair, but like my fellow reviewer from June, I will be also going on vacation soon (to Disneyland) but right now, in June, and I've no time to wait for a refund, or return.I've purchased another pair of Cobra's from Circuit City, which is a step or two up from this model. And they work perfectly!!! And Circuit City even matched this price, as they'e pricing card was incorrectly displayed and they had to lower the price from $50.00.My lucky day.

Uniden Bearcat PC78 Elite 40-Channel CB Radio

I have used CB'S for over twenty years, This one is the best I have used in that time. I might add that for me it is the "fanciest" one I have ever bought. I do find the weather channel to be useful as I commute across the country. The ergonomic mike is a pleasure to use, I expect to see copycats on the market soon. You could spend a lot more for a CB and not get any better performance.

Product Description:
Classically styled but equipped with all the modern features, the Uniden Bearcat PC78 Elite CB radio is a must for truckers, boaters, and other CB enthusiasts. The radio is housed in a stylish silver chassis with backlit chrome control knobs--an enduring look that's sure to satisfy longtime CB fans. More importantly, the radio operates on any of the 40 AM frequencies authorized by the FCC, while also picking up seven NOAA weather channels. For good measure, it even includes an alarm that sounds when a severe weather storm is forecast.
Perhaps the PC78 Elite's most satisfying feature, however, is Uniden's dynamic squelch control, which delivers a clear signal with less noise so that all your channels sound crisp and legible. The squelch control even reduces noise when the CB user on the other end doesn't have it, an advantage that few other squelch enhancers enjoy. The front-positioned microphone, meanwhile, is easy to access and comfortable to hold thanks to its ergonomic pistol grip and extra-long coiled cord.
Additional features include an enhanced night-vision display; Delta tuning; adjustable RF and mic gain controls; instant access to channel 9 (the emergency channel); a PA/CB switch; soft-wave radio (SWR) calibration; and signal meter, antenna warning, and LED indicators that let you monitor radio activity at a glance.
The unit, which measures 7.28 by 2.2 by 8.89 inches (W x H x D) and weighs a little over 4 pounds, is backed by a two-year warranty on parts and labor.

Kenwood KFC-1682IE 6.5-Inch 240-Watt Max Power Three-Way Speaker System Review

Kenwood KFC-1682IE 6.5 inch 240-Watt Max Power Three-Way Speaker System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased these to replace stock speakers in a Honda Civic. This car has considerable rode noise, and if the volume was turned up on the speakers, the sound quality became so bad it was worse than the noise. I purchased these speakers in the hope that I could drown out the road noise at high speeds so I could still listen to music while driving. I drive to Utah (about 5 hours) twice a month. In this my primary goal, I have been extremely pleased. These seem like a very nice speaker.

The radio in this car is not a high quality unit, so I cannot accurately rate the quality reproduction of the highs and the lows, but my overall impression of the sound that comes from these speakers seems very clean. My last speakers I could barely hear the base, and now I can hear it and even feel it (these speakers are in the panel down by my legs). Voices come out much crisper than the old speakers. I would definitely recommend these speakers. I will update this review after I replace the stereo.

Motorola 53728 Flexible Ear Receiver for All Series Review

Motorola 53728 Flexible Ear Receiver for All Series
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Motorola used to sell a Flexible Ear Receiver with a standard earphone plug (3.5mm, I think) that I used with a walkie talkie at work.It fit my ear perfectly, and is adjustable to boot (sorry, Brian, but maybe you're putting it on wrong...).It was about the only thing I could comfortably wear all day (I can't stand having one of those earbuds jammed in my canal).I found it also worked great with my portable radio, CD player, and laptop (mono only, obviously).Unfortunately, Motorola says they don't make that configuration any more. The Receiver shown here is their new model, which has a much smaller (2mm?) plug.If you have compatible equipment, however, this should be a comfortable and useful accessory. It's especially good if you listen more than you talk - I could hear everything with the radio clipped to my belt as I went about my day, and when I picked it up to talk into it, people could tell I was "on the phone."

Cobra MicroTalk FRS1102 2-Mile 14-Channel FRS Two-Way Radio (Pair) (Midnight Frost) Review

Cobra MicroTalk FRS1102 2-Mile 14-Channel FRS Two-Way Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own a set of these FRS radios and they get a workout! We use them in museums (like the Louvre!), big grocery and department stores and car caravans...since these radios use the UHF frequencies, "line-of-sight" is important for maximum range...I have obtained almost 2.5 miles or so, but one person was on top of a hill and the other down in a small city...otherwise, expect about a mile and change between 2 cars (put the radio outside the window for maximum range - unless it's raining!) and anywhere between 3/4 mile to 1.5 in town, depending on how surrounded you are by buildings. For most people these radios can be very useful...we like 'em in malls, etc so we can go to shops each of us likes and then just buzz the other when we are ready to do something else. I bought the rechargable NiMH batteries...a real long term savings and good for the environment too...I get decent time usage with the NiMH The extra "fluff" items one can buy like AM FM or weather...well, geez, why oh why pay for something you already have? Just get a model with the 14 channels and be happy. These radios are a godsend when 2 people are traveling to strange cities, looking for parking spaces or directions, etc and allow one person to leave the car or luggage safely and carry on some business. The Cobras are a great value.

Handheld Deluxe VHF/UHF Dualband Amateur Radio 2M/440 with Twin Display TH-UVF1 Review

Handheld Deluxe VHF/UHF Dualband Amateur Radio 2M/440 with Twin Display TH-UVF1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the TYT UVF1 FM Transceiver about 45 days ago.I am new to amateur radio so I didn't want to spend $400 for a dual-band HT.The UVF1 performs well and for the money it is an excellent buy.I have been getting good signal reports on most repeaters in the area.
Pros-
The price is awesome.
Dual-band and Dual display.
Comes with cable and software
Easy to switch between programmed channels and ad-hoc frequency entry.
You can listen to any frequency from 87-108Mhz FM Broadcast
Receives 136-174Mhz & 390-520Mhz.
Transmits 144-148Mhz & 430-450Mhz. 5W/4W output w/1W low setting.
Drop-in Charger.

Cons-
You will need the cable and software to get to all the options.
The software is pretty flaky. It crashes if you try to copy and paste, so don't try it without saving your configuration so far.
The manual is... well, not wonderful. Some of the features are not explained, just on or off.

All in all... This is an inexpensive entry radio that performs very well.

I am keeping mine.

Frank
