(More customer reviews)Been a driver for 20 yrs, always ran "el cheapo" radio stock out of box. decided to get big radio and looked for awhile b4 deciding on a 959, (same as 949 except has freq meter) it has features only found(and not found in some cases)on much more expensive models!! The ones that got me were variable talkback,4 stage LARGE meter that you can actually see and use ,(signal, modulation,power and swr),freq meter, ...so, I paid more than this site because i bought at a truck stop(pilot) paid 200. took to local radio shop and did basic peak and tune and added echo board (70$total)
and now get nothing but compliments all day!!! Big Galaxy sound!!! my driving buddies tell me i key up all over traffic on 19 and sound great doing it. my out of pocket is well below 300$ and you can save even more buying online. Also 2 year warranty is not voided by any mods you do as long as the mod doesnt cause the problem you send it in for!!!couldnt find that with any other radio!!! Another reviewer mentioned swr warning light may come on before 2.5 to 1 and this is true with mine also but i dont mind this ,i consider it an "early warning system" however if it bothers you galaxy is aware of prob and has solution on their support site. prob a 5$ fix at a radio shop
For example my buddy has a general lee, has about 350$ in it and it does sound great and all but he is jealous of all the features and good looks of mine and considering getting one!!

(More customer reviews)It's a nice idea - a USB-converter-built-in cable.(As an aside some day Ham gear will include the $0.50 USB chipset and this silliness will be behind us, but I digres..)

Unfortunately the manufacturer is using a custom version of the Prolific chipset, and the standard drivers from Prolific won't work.

That would be ok if their provided driver was stable, but for Windows 7/x64 users at least, it is not.On Win7/x64 it crashes the machine with a blue screen error (Interrupt contention problem of some sort) within minutes.

Very nicely-constructed, but without a working driver, and a customized chipset so you can't use the standard one (even though the USB class IDs MATCH what the Prolific driver is intended for - that's not nice!) the "product" is worth zero.

The manufacturer has been contacted; if they respond I will update the review.

(More customer reviews)There are a lot of CB radios out there and the Cobra 29 LTD Classic has stood the test of time.It comes with the traditional chrome detailed brushed aluminum faceplate that really shows off this radio.But the true quality is in the radio itself.I have owned plenty of CBs in the past 30 years including some top-end AM/sideband CBs as well as a few export radios, and as far as a straight AM 40 channel CBs, this is one that really shines above the others.The most impressive features in this radio are its sensitivity in receiving, even while the Noise-Blanker and/or Automatic Noise Limmiter circuits are engaged.And these circuits actually eliminate static and engine-generated noise...unlike some other radios.Overall, the 29LTD Classic is perhaps the best inexpensive AM CB out there!

(More customer reviews)I purchased the TYT UVF1 FM Transceiver about 45 days ago.I am new to amateur radio so I didn't want to spend $400 for a dual-band HT.The UVF1 performs well and for the money it is an excellent buy.I have been getting good signal reports on most repeaters in the area.
Pros-
The price is awesome.
Dual-band and Dual display.
Comes with cable and software
Easy to switch between programmed channels and ad-hoc frequency entry.
You can listen to any frequency from 87-108Mhz FM Broadcast
Receives 136-174Mhz & 390-520Mhz.
Transmits 144-148Mhz & 430-450Mhz. 5W/4W output w/1W low setting.
Drop-in Charger.

Cons-
You will need the cable and software to get to all the options.
The software is pretty flaky. It crashes if you try to copy and paste, so don't try it without saving your configuration so far.
The manual is... well, not wonderful.Some of the features are not explained, just on or off.

All in all... This is an inexpensive entry radio that performs very well.

I am keeping mine.
