(More customer reviews)Been a driver for 20 yrs, always ran "el cheapo" radio stock out of box. decided to get big radio and looked for awhile b4 deciding on a 959, (same as 949 except has freq meter) it has features only found(and not found in some cases)on much more expensive models!! The ones that got me were variable talkback,4 stage LARGE meter that you can actually see and use ,(signal, modulation,power and swr),freq meter, ...so, I paid more than this site because i bought at a truck stop(pilot) paid 200. took to local radio shop and did basic peak and tune and added echo board (70$total)
and now get nothing but compliments all day!!! Big Galaxy sound!!! my driving buddies tell me i key up all over traffic on 19 and sound great doing it. my out of pocket is well below 300$ and you can save even more buying online. Also 2 year warranty is not voided by any mods you do as long as the mod doesnt cause the problem you send it in for!!!couldnt find that with any other radio!!! Another reviewer mentioned swr warning light may come on before 2.5 to 1 and this is true with mine also but i dont mind this ,i consider it an "early warning system" however if it bothers you galaxy is aware of prob and has solution on their support site. prob a 5$ fix at a radio shop
For example my buddy has a general lee, has about 350$ in it and it does sound great and all but he is jealous of all the features and good looks of mine and considering getting one!!

Cobra 75 WX ST CB Radio Mic Review

(More customer reviews)First unit shipped to me received fine but the transmit audio was terrible. Even with the Dynamike turned up all the way people could barely hear me. Had to literally shout to be heard at all.
To Amazon's credit they sent me a replacement unit 2nd day air. Amazon has been great to deal with, as always.
This second radio seems to transmit fine so far. However, the speaker of this radio emits a constant, low volume, high pitched whine when receiving. The first radio did not have this "feature".
The good news is all of the controls and features seem to work correctly and the noise blanker and automatic noise limiter do a terrific job stopping car ignition noises. I figure I will keep this radio and live with the whine and hope no other problems crop up. If they do I will change my rating.

The microphone for the CB radio also houses the Bluetooth microphone.You do not push the button to talk on your cell phone, but if the mike is not mounted near the driver's face, you may need to hold it in order to be heard.

While driving in a semi, it works well to cancel out the noise of the truck from the background.

In addition, the advantages over mobile Bluetooth devices is that you do not need to recharge this unit.If you spend a lot of time in a vehicle, this is a good product for you.

Do be careful with the microphone, however.It is not the standard 4-pin microphone used on virtually all CB radios today but instead has six pins.If the microphone is damaged beyond use or must be replaced, a special microphone with the Bluetooth technology is required to continue using the unit.

(More customer reviews)There are a lot of CB radios out there and the Cobra 29 LTD Classic has stood the test of time.It comes with the traditional chrome detailed brushed aluminum faceplate that really shows off this radio.But the true quality is in the radio itself.I have owned plenty of CBs in the past 30 years including some top-end AM/sideband CBs as well as a few export radios, and as far as a straight AM 40 channel CBs, this is one that really shines above the others.The most impressive features in this radio are its sensitivity in receiving, even while the Noise-Blanker and/or Automatic Noise Limmiter circuits are engaged.And these circuits actually eliminate static and engine-generated noise...unlike some other radios.Overall, the 29LTD Classic is perhaps the best inexpensive AM CB out there!

POWER
Any CB you purchase is limited to 4 watts output power so dont let size fool you. ALL CB'S are limited to 4 watts due to FCC regulations, look it up!
PRICE
The price on this site is high retail to say the least. I purchased this unit from Wal-Mart for 35 dollars.
SIZE
This will not take up a bunch of in-cab space that you dont have to spare due to manual tranmissions and transfer case levers. It tucks away nice and doesnt get in the way.

(More customer reviews)I am partial to Uniden anyway, however this CB is great for a first time user or as a back up to a more expensive unit.I have been using CB for about 10 years and I always make sure I have a Uniden 510 available for a back up, or use it in a second car.It has superior range when used with a good antenna and the received audio is decent. I would suggest using an external speaker unless you have a super quiet vehicle. The anl switch cuts through static really well to improve reception, although it sometimes dulls out the audio of the person you are trying to hear. You can use it with a cigarette lighter plug with an adapter from radio shack for a few dollars.They will even show you how to hook it up.It all boils down to being a great CB at a great price.Remember a simple rule of thumb... An inexpensive CB on a good antenna will perform just as well as a high-end CB on a cheap antenna.Don't forget to tune your antenna and have fun!

(More customer reviews)I had a FireStik KW2-B on one of my previous cars for about 3 years and was pleased with it; however, if your mount can support a KW4 (or longer if feasible), the result will be longer range.My KW2 was mounted on the trunk deck using a gumdrop mount.I also have a KW4-W on one of my current vehicles and this review is relatively the same as my review of that antenna...It's a durable antenna that's made in the USA.The antenna is top loaded (coil is at the top) and has a fiberglass whip.If you are new to CB radio, don't forget that you'll also need a mount, coax cable, and an SWR meter for tuning the antenna.More information on tuning the antenna is available on the FireStik website (at the bottom of this product's page or under "Tech Help").I'd recommend reading FireStik's "Tech Help" section and taking their advice when shopping for an antenna:"At least two-thirds of the antenna should be above a vehicles roof line for optimum performance."This antenna adjusts by removing the rubber cap and trimming the antenna down with a pair of diagonal pliers.Be warned that, if you over-trim, you'll be looking at adding a spring or quick disconnect between the antenna and the mount in order to lengthen the antenna again.If you want an antenna that is screw adjusted, take a look at the Firestik II FS series with the tunable tip.Over-all, I believe this is a great antenna.

(More customer reviews)This unit looks and works great.Installation was easy and the performance has been great.Has all the adjustments that I was looking for plus the weather channels.I didn't really want the weather channels at the time of purchase, but I'm glad I have them now.
The cosmetics are great -- chrome dials, silver face, green back-lighting, analog signal meter.
The unit is not a compact unit, but I was able to fit it under the radio in my '96 Ford Ranger without too much trouble.The 9' microphone cord seemed really long to me when I saw that on the spec sheet, but it is actually about perfect.
There are a couple of downsides: The Dynamic Squelch Control is completely useless.As far as I can tell, it just automatically sets the squelch to a higher-than-appropriate level.With DSC on, you miss all low-powered transmissions and some high-powered ones.DSC works great if you're only interested in a ~300' radius.I never turn mine on.
The other downside is that it's nearly impossible to determine the knob positions by sight.That is, you can't easily look down and see that the volume is at 1/2 and squelch is at 1/8, etc.
Neither of these downsides are that big of a deal, though.
BTW, I use the RF Gain control much more than squelch to fine tune my reception.Don't buy a CB radio without RF Gain.

(More customer reviews)The Cobra 75 WX ST Weatherband CB provides an incredible amount of functionality in a very small package.Installation is fast and easy - with a couple tools, your antenna mounted, and little skill, you can have this radio up and running in an hour or two.
CB radios are limited to low-power broadcasting at 4 watts or less.This radio provides maximum power allowed by law and is capable of some pretty incredible range under the right conditions.With a properly tuned, high-quality antenna, I have had coversations with others using the same radio up to 9 miles away.Under normal circumstances, 1-2 miles is more realistic.
As for features, this one has several:
- Scan (all 40 channels in sequence)
- Dual Scan (two channels of your choice)
- Memory
- Lock (so the hand controls don't get reset by accident)
- Weatherband (10 NOAA frequencies)
- Last 3 channels
- SoundTracker (like Dolby noise reduction)
I use mine in a 1999 Jeep Wrangler where there is little extra space for another device.It fits perfectly on my console with the small box hidden away inside.
I can listen to truckers while I am on the highway, talk to my friends when we go off-highway, or scan the channels for both when driving to and from the trails.In the two years I have used mine, it has never given me any problems.It is very sturdy and should stand up to hard use.
I purchased the optional external speaker so that it would be easier to hear but many people find the unit works well right out of the box!
There might be bigger, badder CB's out there, but this one is a peach!

Cobra HA-TA Hand-Held CB Antenna Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this Cobra telescopic antenna for my Cobra Roadtrip handheld CB.It performs better than the included mini-whip, but it is not as sturdy as I'd like it to be.It has two parts, the lower part with a coil, and the upper screw-on telescopic antenna.The lower part with the coil is covered with a plastic layer and it seems like the coil under it it hasn't been soldered carefully, so there is a sharp bump under the plastic which might get exposed after longer usage and standar tear and wear.Fully extended, it measures about 27 inches, compared to the 11.5" in its folded state.It attaches to the handheld using its BNC connector which works perfectly for the Cobra handheld, but if you are buying this for some other CB radio with standard antenna connector you will need to buy the adapter. Bottom line - it works, but it could have been designed smoother.

(More customer reviews)I purchased two of these units for our emergency "go" kits and regularly carry one in the truck.

I like the size and features where you have both CB and weather channels, the hot swap between services is handy as is the CB channel 9/19 hot key.The noise filter does work and gives better reception under some conditions.

Some limits I've found: The antenna designed for use with the unit in CB hand held mode limits communications to under a quarter mile line of sight in my case and the magnetic vehicle antenna will go about half a mile.I'm looking for a better mast antenna for the vehicle.

The weather channel reception is comparable with my scanner.

One thing that I didn't realize when I purchased the radios, and this would have made a difference to me, the A/C charging adapter is NOT part of the package and must be bought separately so if you want to stay off of the battery charger merry-go-round I recommend buying the charger when you buy the radio.Be aware also that the power cord provided for use in a vehicle does NOT charge the radios batterys.

What I really don't like and almost caused me to return the radios: These units use 9 - "AA" batteries, I purchased 18 rechargable batteries - about 5 bucks each, I hadn't purchased the chargers with the radios and ended up buying the biggest stand-alone battery charger I could find locally, all of the chargers I found work in paired sets and mine handles 8 at a time, so 9 is a real pain.

MIDLAND 75-822 40 Channel 2 Way Radio Review

(More customer reviews)All the complaints I've read about this scanner are pretty pointless. This is the best Hand Held scanner I've ever owned. Go to Sears or Best Buy, see what HH CB's they have in, Probably just one, the Cobra 37 ST. Does that have channel scan, 5 memories, memory scan, freq. display, REAL mobile adpater not just a car power cord, NOPE. How much do they want? $40 in Best buy, and get this, $79.99 in sears, check their website.
The problems with range come with any handheld. I dont see the problem, take any hand held in a car and its range will go way down, But midland is only company that provides you with an external antenna hookup/power cord combined and make your radio the size of most mic's, you cant go wrong. The best you'll get from others is a DC power cable, but no way to connect an external car antenna to it. and they will still be full length.
You could also MOD this unit to pick up 120 channels CB (all you need to do is solder one connection...) if your more experienced, you can mod it to pick up 400 channels (dont believe me, try a search engine and type "Midland CB Mod"...
This scanner is the BEST on the market, and I cant belive the price. Would be nice if it has USB/LSB but hey, you cant get everything. It covers all the bases.

Having a CB radio while traveling can be an invaluable tool for emergencies and for keeping up on road conditions, and the Midland 75-820 40-channel handheld CB is one you should definitely consider. It comes with everything you need to get started in a hurry, including a battery pack for times you want to run the unit on six AA batteries and a cigarette lighter adapter for battery-free operation in your car.
The Midland 75-820's design is ideal, with a push-to-talk button on the side, squelch and volume knobs, and a small LCD screen that displays the current channel, signal strength, and a variety of other useful information. Several buttons on the device can be used for scanning, whether quickly flipping between the emergency channel (9) and the standard highway channel (19) or activating the LCD's backlight. The unit also comes with a short, flexible antenna.
Overall, the 75-820's portability is excellent--comparable to a child's walkie-talkie. Unfortunately, the unit's compactness hampers its usefulness, because the relatively small antenna has a hard time pulling in distant signals. In our tests on local highways and on the interstate, transmissions rarely could be heard from more than half a mile away. However, when we connected the Midland 75-822 to a whip antenna that was several feet long, the range increased considerably.
