I own a pair of both the Motorola FR60 and the Audiovox GMRS1525.Fisrt off I live in a regular developed town you would find anywhere. No hi-rises or anything like that. Motorola makes a great radio.Incoming messages are so crisp and clear and I have yet to get a static filled transmission. The only problem is I couldn't get the range needed. The Motorola, which is a "2 mile" radio gets just shy of a half mile and then there is nothing. No faint signal, no static, nothing.I received as a gift a set of the Audiovox GMRS1525 "5 mile" radios and I can get about a mile before the breaking up and static is so bad you can't receive an audible message.Even at a half mile there is a considerable amount of static, somthing you never get on the Motorola's. Unless you are living in the flat wide open plains of the midwest I would advise that you try someone elses radios first or keep the receipt and know the return policy from where you bought them. They may work fine but then again may not give you near what you hope for. I give the Audiovox 2 stars because of the transmission quality being far less than the cheaper 2 mile Motorolas when tested at the same time, same distance.I also think struggling to get a mile is not what a consumer expects when hyped as 5 mile radios. These Audiovox radios should be labeled "up to 2 miles, and in optimum cases you may experience up to 5 miles." Don't expect miracles, you might not get them.
