Zune Car Pack Review

Zune Car Pack
Average Reviews:

*TAKE NOTE: Don't turn your radio on UNTIL you have found a clear FM station with the Zune Car Pack 2. Turning your radio on FIRST seems to prevent the device from finding any clear FM station.

*Some people have had luck tuning with the radio on. The important thing to remember is you are tuning a radio and just like a real radio it may take a little effort to tune it.

None of the harsh negative reviews are accurate IMHO and with respect to these people. It really makes me wonder of their validity in every single claim. The reviews greatly differ from the excellent and flawless product I just received and used. It could be that these well meaning people simply missing something on how to use this very simple and EXTREMELY effective device. My experience was a 100% POSITIVE with ZERO trouble! The Zune Car Pack 2 actually shocked the hell out of me because of the negative above reviews (I was already prepared to send it back). Like most everyone I read the user comments before I buy anything.I called Amazon to verify I could send this product back before I bought because of the horrid reviews above. Sometimes I will gamble anyway with a product purchase like this and this time and it paid off BIG. I got exactly what was advertised and what I wanted in my car.

1) I live in a VERY URBAN area. Nearly every single radio frequency is occupied. I plugged in the adapter hooked up the Zune used the auto-tune to find a clear station. Turned on the radio, tuned it to match the clear frequency and the sound was flawless. I honestly could not tell any significant difference from direct input. No kidding it works that well and that easy. There are also online resources that can locate some good clear FM frequencies by zip code if you should need extra help. The Zune Car Pack 2 finds the clearest stations for me everytime.

2) No static at all! Believe me I tried to get it. I shook my Zune like a nut, I shook the transmitter like an ape, I even placed metal objects on the cord and put the transmitter in every weird place I could think of. Perfect no static. I could not make static no matter how I tried (Man, I forgot to wrap everything in aluminum foil...now that may have a chance)! I tried my hardest to make this accessory sound bad and hear the static claims in the previous posted reviews. But the Zune Car Park v2 remained superb.

3) The Zune pad the is designed to hold the Zune on the dash or somewhere flat. Now I had my doubts about this set-up because I drive rather aggressively. I dusted off my dash and place the Zune on the pad. The thing is rock solid and I would trust it in almost all driving circumstances with confidence except for a hard hitting accident. A fender bender won't move that Zune a bit.

Try it out for yourself. You can always send it back to Amazon if you do not like the way it functions.

Plug in the adapter in the cigarette lighter, plug in the Zune, use auto-tune to find a clear station, turn on the radio, tune it to match the clear fequency and WOW!

The Zune Car Pack 2 is easy, static free, and movement DOES NOT effect the sound at all. As I said before I TRIED my hardest to get static but could not (with the exception of wrapping everything in aluminum foil).

The Zune Car Pack 2 is an excellent product in every respect.

That is what my real-world URBAN experience PROVED to me. I also learned you cannot always trust the reviews you read. Though I would not like to shop without them.

Give it a try as there is really nothing to loose----

I think that the problem is the device is so simple that people are not following the correct process for the device work properly (and the instructions could be better).

Remember to get the clear station tuned with the Zune Car Pack 1st and then turn on your radio and tune to the clear frequency.

Uniden TRU9466 2-Line Expandable Cordless System with Dual Keypad and Call Waiting/Caller ID Review

Uniden TRU9466 2-Line Expandable Cordless System with Dual Keypad and Call Waiting/Caller ID
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a very high quality telephone system at a fantastic price. Admittedly, some will wish that this phone had other features, but I bought it because it matched my needs exactly:

1. Handles two lines.
2. Expandable without needing a phone jack connection for each handset.
3. No answering machine capabilities (we have, and prefer, voice mail).
4. Able to mute all ringers (handsets and base) for a sleeping baby.

Beyond this, we just needed acceptable range and sound quality -- nothing extravagant.

I'm happy to report that these phones have excellent range, exceptional sound quality, and are a snap to set up. The expansion phones set themselves up by simply placing them in the base for a few seconds. It couldn't be easier. The menu system (on each handset and the base) is very intuitive (similar to cell phones), and offers many functions we will never use -- but they never get in the way of the simple things.

Plus, the price was right. This has turned out to be a very successful purchase.

HQRP 1600mAh Ni-MH Battery for Icom IC-A20 / IC-A21 Two Way Radio Replacement plus HQRP Coaster Review

HQRP 1600mAh Ni-MH Battery for Icom IC-A20 / IC-A21 Two Way Radio Replacement plus HQRP Coaster
Average Reviews:

Bought this as a replacement for my 20+ year old battery for an ICOM IC-R20 aviation transceiver. The battery pack is made well, just about as good as the OEM pack but I found that after installing it on the radio the pack did not fit tightly enough onto the radio to make good contact. If you wiggle the pack the power goes out and then comes back on.My solution was to bend the metal guideways on the battery to make it fit a little tighter. It seems to work better now but that's something that shouldn't have to be done.Another annoying problem is that after the pack was charged for a day or so and installed on the radio, the "Battery" warning on the display came on.Seeing that I had charged it for over a day, I put it back on the charger for another day and the same thing happened.I left the radio on for well over a day and the battery didn't die.I'm assuming it might have something to do with the fact that this pack is made with NiMH bateries and the OEM one was made with Nicads. The sensor in the radio might read the voltage or amps differently with the NiMH batteries...don't know, but the bottom line is that they do hold out for a long time.Just annoying to see the warning indicator on all the time.

Delphi SA10085 Roady2 XM Satellite Radio Receiver with Built-in Wireless FM Modulator Review

Delphi SA10085 Roady2 XM Satellite Radio Receiver with Built-in Wireless FM Modulator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have not before been interested in getting sattelite radio and never thought I would, but after I saw my friend with one of these DELPHI Roady2 units, I had to get one too. My friend had shown me other XM units he had, but this is the one that got me to get XM.

When you look at this tiny shirt pocket sized device, you think it is just a controller or head for a much larger unit somewhere, but EVERYTHING is inside the small device itself, including the FM transmitter. Most FM transmitters on the market have been bigger than this device, but somehow they fit one inside this unit with all the other stuff it needs to do.

This unit is smaller than my radar detector.Much smaller.

And unlike most FM transmitters, this one has a nice strong signal! With my friend outside in his car with the unit, I went into my house and was able to tune the XM station he had tuned to on my radio in the house!

In fact, what I like most about this unit is that it is so easy to take from home to car so that you only need one unit for both.Right now, I have it tuned to a channel in the bedroom, but can listen to a radio here in the office on the other side of the house, or any room in the house, the FM transmitter is that good. You have a choice of several FM frequencies, and unlike those FM transmitters you tune with a screwdriver, this one is digitally PL locked to the frequency you select via the on screen menu, and it will not fade off frequency.

The audio quality is going to be better with the line out jack, but the quality of the FM modulator has been good enough for me so far, plus it means I can use any radio in the house or car without having to connect any wires to them.

OK, now some neat features not mentioned on most reviews and websites....

While listening to a channel, you can use the thumbwheel and read what is playing on all the other channels without leaving the channel you are listening too.If you find a song or program that you like, just push in the thumbwheel and you jump to that channel's audio.

Let's say you are in the car, and a song comes on that you really like but don't have pen or paper to write down the name of song and artist. Just push the button on the front labeled:MEMORY.Now that song and artist info is stored into memory so that at any time later when you are around pen and paper, you can call up that information and write it down! You can store up to 20 songs in this memory, then it starts deleting the oldest song title in memory once you have 20 stored.

You can also put songs into another memory that will have the unit BEEP at you if any of your favorite songs are being played on any channel while you are on another channel. Then one press of a button, and you can jump to your favorite song playing.

Each major city has it's own traffic and weather channel, and the current temperature and forecast is printed on the screen too.

You can program your favorite stocks to constantly show you the stock rate on the screen under song or channel name.

Another reason I never wanted to get sattelite radio in the car, is because of having to mount another antenna on the car, I don't like to put holes in the car.But this one has a magnet mount and is the size of a refridgerator magnet, so you can stick it on the roof while driving, but you don't even have to do that, since just resting it near the front windshield inside the car has been getting me great reception, so why put it outside the car if I don't have to? Some might just stick the tiny magnet antenna to the top of their radar detectors.

Same with indoors.I was told to put it in a window with some sort of direction view, but I have it in the middle of the room now not next to any window and it is working just fine. I ordered the in home kit, which will give me a seperate indoor antenna that is a bit larger and will probably be better yet, plus, then I don't have to take the one antenna in and out of the house, I can leave the one in the car and the other in the house and just take the unit itself in and out.

They give you several mounts for inside the car, and I like the vent mount the best, because I don't have to use any sticky permanent tape, glue, or velcro in my car, it holds on to the air vent real tight, and the unit just slides on and off of it and is nice and visable to read right over the radio. But this mount can be taken off easy and does not ruin the car or leave sticky residue.

I bet most people will not figure out how to use the vent clip, and no instructions explain it, but if you figure it out and do it right, it will never fall off and will stay unless you want to take it off. If it keeps falling off for you, you are not doing it right. You don't just slide it in and out of the vent, once you slide it in, in snaps onto to thin plastic parts of the vent and will not come back out unless you angle each of the clamps the right way.And once you have this snapped in to your vent, you do NOT take it on and off as another reviewer mentioned having problems with, the DELPHI Roady2 slides on and off of the vent mount, so you leave the mount on the vent, you don't keep taking it off, you just slide the Roady2 on and off the mount that stays connected to the vent, unless you are not going to use the Roady2 in the car ever again, then take the vent mount off.

And I figured since I got the unit on a weekend evening, I would not be able to get it activated until Monday morning, but XM had an operator to help me when I called and my unit was activated within 10 minutes just from calling from home with a credit card.

Even though you disconnect the unit from power and take it from the house to the car, or back the other way, it remembers what channel you were on last and all the memories and information you had stored in it.

Oh, and you can order a remote control for the unit too.It even has an infrared remote detector in this tiny thing.

NOW FOR SOME SECRET TRICKS!!

Not mentioned in the manual, and unknown to most Roady2 owners, are secret codes to get extra features out of the unit!

With the unit turned off... Press 2 3 2, and then push in the tuning wheel.

The unit will turn on without the backlight on!

This is great if you don't want to attract attention with the bright lights of the unit in the dark, or to consume less power if you want to operate the unit on a battery pack.

To help aim your antenna at the two satellites...

With the unit turned off... Press 2 0 7, and then push in the tuning wheel.

The unit will turn on, then press the DISPLAY button until the display shows BER%

Now adjust your antenna until you get the lowest reading on one or both of the satellites.

You are shooting for "0" on one of the satellites, as only one is
needed, but if you have a clear shot to both, it is possible to get low number or "0" readings on both.--------------------------------------
UPDATE:HIDE ANTENNA IN THE TRUNK!!!
--------------------------------------I have found out something very interesting that I wanted to share here. I put the tiny magnet mount antenna that comes with the Roady2 under the rear deck of the car under the back window. (The carpeted deck that the rear speakers are usually mounted in.)And as you can open the trunk and get access to and easily SEE the bottom of the rear speakers and see them hanging down from the deck, you can also stick the magnet antenna here!

Be carefull to understand that just putting any radio antenna in a trunk, where metal shields it from seeing the sky will NEVER work.NO METAL OF THE CAR CAN BE BETWEEN THE ANTENNA SO IT CAN NOT SEE THE SKY.(No damage will occur to the radio, you just won't get any reception!)

BUT.. on most rear decks of cars, there are usually lots of cut outs of the metal of the car (especially two big ones for the speakers to go through) and if you wedge this antenna and stick it on TOP of the metal, so that only the cardboard and carpet of the rear deck is between the antenna and the sky view out the rear window, this WILL WORK!!

Do not stick the antenna on the BOTTOM of the metal, but on TOP of it so that it is sandwiched between the metal and the carboard/carpet of the rear deck.

It is OK that the carpet and cardboard block it from seeing out the rear window, as radio waves can go through cardboard and carpet, just not METAL. So now, when you look at the rear deck, all you see are your two rear speakers and third brake light, you can't SEE the XM antenna, but the satellites CAN see it!

I have used it this way now for MONTHS without EVER having any reception problems. No matter which direction I am driving too, because the 2 XM sattelites are at such angles in the sky that they will always see through the windows of the car and reach the antenna under the rear deck.If the sattelites were directly straight above, then this would probably not work, since the metal ROOF of the car would block the antenna depending on which direction you were driving. I bet this trick won't work with Sirrius antennas, since their sattelites are always moving around and many times are straight above you.

But even under the hardest rain storms, I have had full strength reception with this tiny antenna hidden in the trunk! The wire I just sent under the rear seats and to the front of the car.The magnet holds it securely in place. And when the car is parked, no one can SEE the antenna, and the Roady2 goes in my shirt pocket, so no temptation for...Read more›

Just Junk pure and simple. I could never get them to work right out of the box. The chargers fried the batteries on the first charge. If you speak and read English the instructions are totally worthless. They are made VERY cheaply.
I bought these for an elderly couple that didn't want to carry the hand held models. I'm very disappointed. We eventually went with a 4 pack of the Motorola mini Walkie Talkies.

This is a great basic unit to introduce your technophobe friends & family to the fun & convenience of the Family Radio Service. Here in suburban Los Angeles, I've had no problems finding a clear channel withoutusing the 38 "privacy codes" (sub-audible tones inserted onto theoutgoing signal to be recognized by the receiving radio set to the same"code" tone) Signals are crystal clear w/great sound qualitythrough all 19 floors of my work hi-rise and hilltop range 'line-of-sight'is well in excess of the advertized 2 miles.Fortunately, the transmitbutton is ergonomically correct, on the left SIDE, unlike the incrediblyawkward face-center ones on the SLKs.The heavy duty construction makesfor a solid, substantial though still compact radio, much more impressivethan the toy-like feel of most other FRS units. My only complaint aboutthe FR60 is the overly loud beep that accompanies every button push (excepttransmit). Overall - GREAT RADIO !

Average Reviews:

I have owned several of the top rated Cobras and Motorolas.I already owned a pair of Midland's older "5 watt" radios, but I purchased the 800's to get the longer antenna and any improvements they might have made to the transmitter and receiver sections. The 800's have no great surprises.Range is very good for a GMRS consumer radio but we all need to start disregarding the outrageous published claims by the manufacturers on range and output. They are largely irrelevant. If you want more accurate information on output and range, browse through the very helpful two-way radio forum at: http://www.twowayradioforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=4

According to the FCC, actual radiated power from these units (at the antenna) is a bit over 1.6 watts, but that's very good when compared with most other brands of GMRS radios on the market. In terms of usable range in a suburban environment, think in terms of 5 miles at the outside;less where there are hills, buildings or trees. Less yet from car to car.

The radios are a bit bulky but manageable.Sound quality is reasonably good, and volume is only OK.All in all, a good investment for the money and a 3 year warranty is one of the best.Based on my experience, I can recommend these radios for most consumer applications.

Motorola Ni-Cd Rechargeable Battery Upgrade Kit for T5000 Radios Review

Motorola Ni-Cd Rechargeable Battery Upgrade Kit for T5000 Radios
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The rechargable batteries and chargers came in OEM package, and in good shape, the only drawback is the power output is slightly less than what is recommended for the Motorola T5420 so it doesn't last as long should but when compared to batteries or rechargeable batteries it is quite a money saver.

Uniden Bearcat PC68XL 40-Channel CB Radio Review

Uniden Bearcat PC68XL 40-Channel CB Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This unit looks and works great.Installation was easy and the performance has been great.Has all the adjustments that I was looking for plus the weather channels.I didn't really want the weather channels at the time of purchase, but I'm glad I have them now.
The cosmetics are great -- chrome dials, silver face, green back-lighting, analog signal meter.
The unit is not a compact unit, but I was able to fit it under the radio in my '96 Ford Ranger without too much trouble. The 9' microphone cord seemed really long to me when I saw that on the spec sheet, but it is actually about perfect.
There are a couple of downsides: The Dynamic Squelch Control is completely useless. As far as I can tell, it just automatically sets the squelch to a higher-than-appropriate level. With DSC on, you miss all low-powered transmissions and some high-powered ones.DSC works great if you're only interested in a ~300' radius.I never turn mine on.
The other downside is that it's nearly impossible to determine the knob positions by sight. That is, you can't easily look down and see that the volume is at 1/2 and squelch is at 1/8, etc.
Neither of these downsides are that big of a deal, though.
BTW, I use the RF Gain control much more than squelch to fine tune my reception.Don't buy a CB radio without RF Gain.

Product Description:
Classically styled but equipped with all the modern features, the Uniden Bearcat PC68XL CB radio is a must for truckers, boaters, and other CB enthusiasts. The radio is housed in a stylish silver chassis with chrome control knobs--an enduring look that's sure to satisfy longtime CB fans. More importantly, the radio operates on any of the 40 AM frequencies, giving users plenty of communication options. It even offers instant access to channel 9 should an emergency arise.
Perhaps the PC68XL's most satisfying feature, however, is Uniden's dynamic squelch control, which delivers a clear signal with less noise so that all your channels sound crisp and legible. The squelch control even reduces noise when the CB user on the other end doesn't have it, an advantage that few other squelch enhancers enjoy. The front-positioned microphone, meanwhile, is easy to access and versatile thanks to its extra-long coiled cord.
Additional features include an adjustable LED channel display and transmit/receive indicators for monitoring activity at a glance; adjustable RF and mic gain controls; a PA/CB switch; and an analog S/RF meter. The unit, which measures 6.29 by 2.16 by 8.54 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 3 pounds, is backed by a two-year warranty on parts and labor.
What's in the Box
PC68XL CB radio, microphone, mounting bracket kit, DC power cord, reference guide, FCC rules, product registration card, user's manual.

Cobra MicroTalk FRS220 2-Mile 14-Channel FRS Two-Way Radio (Charcoal) Review

Cobra MicroTalk FRS220 2-Mile 14-Channel FRS Two-Way Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just bought this radio not to long ago... I am VERY happy with it! It has features that the more expensive Motorola TalkAbout FR60 does not have, such as a lock (so if you have it in your pocket and a button is pressed mistakenly, nothing will happen!),LCD backlit display,a bendable antenna, and belt clips (you would have to pay EVEN MORE for this on the FR60)! It has excellent clarity, easy to use buttons, a Call button, 14 channels, 38 subcodes (so other people cannot annoy your conversation!), and much more! The only thing I would like on this Cobra is that it would have better clarity with people in a longer distance (about a mile and a half, you cannot hear at all, depending on the surroundins). I definitely reccomend this Cobra radio! If you are about to buy the Motorola FR60, drop your credit card and turn to the Cobra FRS 220 2-way radio!

Product Description:
Affordably priced and easy to use, Family Radio Service (FRS) two-way radios like the Cobra FRS 220 microTALK will give you peace of mind on your next hiking adventure, amusement park excursion, or trip to the mall. With an FRS radio, you can give each family member a radio and not have to worry about cell phone coverage or expensive roaming charges. Reach anyone instantly without dialing or make announcements to everyone in your group at the same time.
What is Family Radio Service (FRS)? In 1996, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) set aside one part of the FM radio frequency spectrum for use by small groups at short ranges. Use of this UHF range--from 462.5625 to 467.7125 MHz--is free and doesn't require an FCC license. (GMRS, or General Mobile Radio Service, does require an FCC license.)
When using an FRS radio, expect reception to be affected by the terrain--thick woods, buildings, and electrical sources will cut your range. However if you're transmitting to another radio from a mountaintop or other high point, you could reach someone up to two miles away.
Cobra's microTALK radios come with features that make using FRS simple and enjoyable. The Cobra FRS 220 microTALK features an automatic squelch that prevents the radio from activating until a voice signal is received. With squelch, you won't hear random popping and hissing from other electronic devices or atmospheric signals. The keypad lock prevents accidental pressing of buttons, and the call key allows you to signal anyone in your party with a distinctive tone.
This radio comes with all 14 available FRS channels plus 38 CTCSS subchannels, or "privacy codes," per channel. CTCSS codes are actually tones that "code" and "decode" a signal, allowing the people in your group to transmit on the same channel without having to listen to other radio traffic on the same channel. Note that these privacy codes won't keep others from listening to you--FRS users without a CTCSS code-enabled radio will still hear your transmissions. (For more about privacy codes, see our Two-Way Radio Buying Guide.)
Families looking for affordable and dependable communication should consider the power and versatility of the Cobra FRS 220 microTALK.

Griffin iTrip AutoPilot FM Transmitter Review

Griffin iTrip AutoPilot FM Transmitter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered the new iTrip and was hoping to use it in my SUV (a 2007 Chrysler Aspen). You download a free app to your iPhone, let it search for an empty piece of FM bandwidth and you're ready to go.The device is beautiful and very well designed.Unfortunately, with recent regulatory changes by the FCC, the allowed amount of signal strength just isn't enough to get a decent signal.Maybe my car has a lot of metal shielding in it, but I held the cable as close as I could to the external antenna, but it just wasn't usable.I ended up returning it.I don't consider this Griffin's fault but rather the FCC for implementing too strict regulations.

Pyle Home PDIC61RD 6.5-Inch Two-Way In-Ceiling Speaker System Review

Pyle Home PDIC61RD 6.5 inch Two-Way In-Ceiling Speaker System
Average Reviews:

I've bought more than a few pairs of in ceiling round speakers. For my application, I don't buy the most expensive.

Though this was the first pair where I had to solder to make the connection. a little bit of a hassle when dangling from a ceiling.

I've bought others in the same price range that had the spring clamping.

GE 35840GC3 2-Mile 14-Channel FRS Two-Way Radio Review

GE 35840GC3 2-Mile 14-Channel FRS Two-Way Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My first experience with this radio was a used one I bought in an auction. There were no instructions and I had to figure out all the features. It wasn't that difficult, but contrary to the description by Amazon, this radio does NOT have the scramble feature.I liked this radio so much I bought a new one.Armed with the instructions, I found features I didn't know existed. The GE 35840 is one of a handful radios that have programmable memory. You can set up to 10 different channel/CTCSS tone combinations.Another feature not found in many FRS radios is the memory scan. Now this may not seem important but it does provide a bit of security to your conversations.I programmed both my GE 35840 radios to scan 4 different channel and CTCSS tone combinations. When I transmit on one, a random selection from the 4 memories I have programed is selected. While scanning the other radio picks-up the transmission in about 1/2 second. What this does is make it difficult for anyone trying to listen in on your conversation to keep track of you.You are talking on 4 different channel/CTCSS combinations at random. They may hear bits and pieces of your conversation, but that's all. Also, when scanning all channels the GE 35840 will sync to the CTCSS tone when it senses a signal. This happens in about 1/2 second.Another nice feature is the temperature display.Along with the temperature, this radio will also receive NOAA weather transmissions.Battery usage is very good and this radio takes 3 AA batteries for a long battery life. The speaker/mic external connections works great with ICOM/Radio Shack speaker mics. You will not have to buy a high-prices model that only the manufactorer sells.Range and sound quality is very good.I have about 7 different brands of FRS radios and this one is my favorite. If you can pickup a couple, do so!

Belkin RockStar 5-Way 3.5-mm Headphone Splitter (White) Review

Belkin RockStar 5-Way 3.5-mm Headphone Splitter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Can be used with multiple pod and headphone combinations. My son plugged in Disney and Crazy Frog's versions of a song, through 2 pods.He and I both listened to his mix, and we still had two ports available for more friends or MP3 players.Only has one MP3 jack, so to use more than one device at a time, you need a male-to-male plug (radio shack/target/walmart for >$5).This is really cool for letting 5 kids listen at once.Great product. We'll see how it holds up over time, though the quality feels fine.Props to Belkin for making packaging that doesn't require scissors and sharp edges/sliced fingers to open...

EDIT:My son checked the packaging this morning before he threw it away and there was an extra male-to-male plug for connecting a second ipod wrapped up inside. The only way it could be better is if it made my coffee...

Pyramid 2022SX 200 Watts 3Way Mini Box Speaker System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought these speakers for my work truck, a Nissan Frontier crew cab. The truck has no factory mounted rear speakers and no mounting locations.
The Pyramids were an easy mount behind the seats.
The sound is good, who can tell in a truck anyway, but they handle the power from my 52x4 head unit ok and don't distort until about 75% volume is reached.
Good for the money if your not into blasting the volume.
